Description:

Join the Institute for Clinical Social Work and Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute for a free hybrid event.  A presentation will be followed by respondents and a community discussion.

Dr. Sarah Goldberg will present her research based on her dissertation :

Fresh Sufferings: An exploration of aging psychoanalysts, which examines the conflicting dynamics of wisdom and decline in a population of older psychoanalysts.

Respondent Dr. Amy Eldridge and Dr. Linda Emanuel will respond, sharing information and insights from their own work and research.

Dr Christine Jacobek and Dr Leah Harp will moderate a discussion among attendees and presenters.  

  

Afterwards, interested attendees are welcome to join ICSW and CPI community  members to enjoy lunch at a local venue. Each attendee must purchase their own lunch.

Learning objectives:

  1. Describe a developmental timeline for aging and retirement 
  2. Explain the unique ways the retirement phase impacts clinicians 
  3. Develop action steps for how to plan for oneself and colleagues

    Additional Objectives:

    1. Describe the complex process that analysts/clinicians undergo when deciding to retire.

    2. Explain why existential maturation is important for psychoanalysis.
